Every other Friday, I share 5 things to consider. On the Fridays between, I mix things up. This is a 5 Things Friday.

Here are this fortnight’s 5 things to consider:
“Attention is not a resource but a way of being alive to the world.”
Gentle reminder that your feeds this weekend will be awash with partisan noise and hot takes—all in addition to important, but challenging news of multiple crises and the steady stream of humanity and inanity that makes the internet the internet. Whew! Be good to yourselves, okay? Go gently. Stay alive in your attention, and tend your hearts. I’m writing this for myself as much as for you. It’s a struggle; I’m with you. xo
Helpful:
I needed to read this:
“We live in a capitalist world, you will need money to live. But there are so many ways you can rebel against a system that wants you to be compliant and stagnant and unfulfilled. There are ways you can reclaim your life and demand magic from it. You don’t have to work in the way society is asking you to. In fact, it is imperative that you don’t.” —
, “I didn’t want a job”
The Forever Workshop issued this dialogue warning for fiction writers, but it’s also a reality check for the rest of us. Humans are messy communicators. The good news is, it’s not just you. The bad news is, it’s not just the other guy, either.
“Your characters are almost always (consciously or unconsciously) doing one of these things:
Hiding
Gloating
Lying
Pretending
Avoiding
Disguising
Conflating
Confusing
Appeasing
Flirting
Minimizing
Amplifying
Pacifying
Alluding to
Provoking
You and I do all the shady stuff above too (we do!), despite angelic intentions.”

ICYMI, last week I wished you big happiness + shared a word on climate grief. (That word was “solastalgia.”)
