Ode to spring break Exiting winter, I’ve one thing to say: This springtime I hope we make room for some play. I know what you’re thinking. There’s no time to lose. The world has gone sideways, it seems from the news. I’m with you, I promise, I see the whole scene. Unfolding, this hurricane, awful and mean, it huffs, and it puffs, and it blows the House down. Next goes the Senate. Then Trump wants a crown. I worry, like you, about Elon and Meta. This horrible weather will not just get better. It rains, and it pours, and it threatens to flood. (Dropping the metaphor, they risk our blood.) So! Each time I ask you to breathe and have fun, just know that I say this because I am one who wants us to dream up a scheme that is greater than anything we have yet seen from the haters. And one vital fact is that humans think best when we’re not overstressed and have gotten some rest. So, take a load off and please have a good time. I’ll hold down the line, and then you’ll help with mine. Thus, we will each take a turn at the wheel of this bucket brigade with its very big feels. Go play, and then work, and again ‘til we’ve found a genuine way to turn this thing around. And work, and then play, and again you will see that love and delight are good reasons to be. Meanwhile, remember that you are alive, and every last one has the same right to thrive. Humans and otters and possums and worms. Rivers and forests and orcas and terns. Each thread of life, just like us, adds a feather to this earthly nest we are weaving together. Spring time, break free! And consider one thing: There will be no music if no one will sing. ✨
